I’ve already had the pleasure of seeing some of your lovely faces at Asellina—the restaurant in the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel where I’ve been DJing a bit lately. For those of you that I haven’t seen, have I got a live mix for you!
One of the amazing things about DJing at Asellina is that it’s a long set, generally a full 5 hours, so I can really show off a mix that builds and builds, sort of a dying art among today’s DJs. Also, because it’s a restaurant, I get to play genres that I’ve never really had the opportunity to try out, since I’ve always been more dancefloor-centric. It’s an adventure in melting all sorts of genres together, and I definitely make pretty heavy use of the looping capabilities in Ableton with my APC 40.
The mix below features 2 grooving hours of my 5 hour set, recorded live at Asellina on June 20, 2012. Mixing flawlessly between genres, from lounge, ambient and trip-hop to nu disco and light progressive house (there’s even some stuff that could pass for rock in there), this mix is perfect listening, whether you’re sipping a cocktail on your yacht or slipping into that hammered satin Halston for a night on the town. Sorry, top 40, but you’re not on the list.
